Perhaps I was in the right mood today, but on the whole I found this week’s quite easy except for 18ac where I needed to check on the internet to see if my answer was the name of a novel and 11ac where my answer seems to fit: it has a dish and a house, but I do not see any connection with “popular” and only a weak connection with “bird”. Perhaps I have got it wrong, but if not please explain.

I actually found it a bit harder than usual (not helped by having the wrong type of animal in 14dn for a while!)
The second word in 11ac refers to a (too-) common bird of the crow family.

I found once I`d started it wasn`t too bad. All done except 8ac. ? A ? E ? (5). I`ve got something you hail in the street plus `er. Makes something from the Highland Games! Can`t be right...............Magw.

re 11a, I've got the tasty dish, but did not see the connection with "popular" until two coffees later. But still not convinced about the parsing. Maybe: "that's = i.e. + P (popular)" but there's no instruction to reverse it. Help!

... or is the definition just "dish that's popular" ?
If so, is the second word a name of a bird on its own? Having a bad brain day.......
