11ac I had not realised that it could be used as one word for a bird. But it’s nice to know I’m not the only one uncertain about ‘popular’. I can’t find it in a dictionary but could it mean “can be lived in’? As an adjective from “populate”?

Maybe it`s a simplistic answer, but I just thought it meant a dish that is generally liked. M.

Hi, Folks.

As has been said earlier, not too difficult this week. Once the easier answers were filled in, the rest just sort of fell into place.

Best wishes to all.

Hi Wally,
I also had to look up the novel in 18A, never heard of it. It's good to know there are still some things that were before my time.
I found this puzzle very daunting at first, but it seemed to get easier as I went on.
