The answer I have is the one listed in Brewer's and is also what comes up on Wkipedia.

I have only a few clues remaining but have absolutely no idea what the unclued lights have in common with an entry in Brewer. Any hints please?

You'll find the 8-letter headword in the first row of the grid.

The 8-letter word starts from the 4th square in the row. You'll need to make a calculated guess at the unchecked letters if you haven't got them, or use a word wizard.

Feeling dense- missing two letters. This looked impossible at first, but this poor Yank made a lucky guess early on. I'm just not getting 45a, however: EX-giant (4). This may have to do with 32d: Money, sort that's not special, finally (6); I see what the answer must be but am missing the wordplay (I gather that "that's" is IE, but don't see how it gets stuck on the end). Is money not the definition? Hints, anyone? Everything else is perfectly clear. Braced for embarrassment.

32 Think of a seven letter word for sort/kind/variation - take off the last letter('that's not special')
45 A. Was far easier than I originally thought . It's just...
E
X
= Giant.
Hope this isn't too much or too little. Subtle hints are beyond me!

Re 32, 'money' IS the definition and I'm sure your answer is the correct one.
