The Times today gives a coffee answer of yesterday as expresso (sic). Another sign of the Times ?

Did they apologise? It is not in Chambers, and should be espresso. This is one of several mistakes they have made recently.

I've just tried entering expresso into google and it automatically changes it to espresso. I hate the fact that when people start to mispronounce a word or misspell it , it eventually becomes acceptable, such as tonight becoming tonite. Grrrr! I am a dinosaur, as my husband used to call me ;)

I went to the leisure centre this morning and saw a poster advertising SWIMSKOOL. English spelling is hard enough to learn anyway. I am a bit of a dinosaur too but I suppose language does evolve or we'd still be spelling like Shakespeare.

It's just me having a good old moan. I'm just like Lynne Truss and long to go into shops to tell them about their errors. Another one of my Grrr moments is when I see definAtely ! I suppose that will become the norm one day. ;(

i'm not bothered by phonetic spelling but expresso just seems wrong on any level.
