I've got #2 as well.

Before I commit slow suicide by taking up real cigars again,can I assume we're looking for a particular type with # 5, and that an anagram is involved? Please don't laugh!

As for # 4 I've no idea what we're looking for at all (even if it's definitely not a contraceptive).

Way off on #5, I'm afraid - none of the above.

You mean there's no anagram at all? Then I think it's time for a cigarillo at least in the last few minutes: won't get it now anyway.

2. NEEDLES(s) (bugs as a verb)
3. LAUGHING-STOCK (anagram "cloaking thugs")
4. ? (obviously NOT birth-control !)
5. PALINDROME (which is included in the clue)
