clue is "Buffet's about right, really". I have c-r-e-y. Only word that fits is "curtesy" - a husband's "right" to his deceased wife's land. But why "buffet"?

'Carvery' would also fit your letters, which sort of fits in with buffet, but I can't explain the rest!

I think carvery is right - ca(abbrev. for about) r(for right) very (apparently archaic word for real)
