Hi Helbar.

3. is birds of a feather ('feathers' being 'down').

JimC
Silly boy
3 Birds of a feather ?
JimC
Hi again.

A bit horrible, but here's an idea.

1. vomiters ???

JimC
Hi once more.

2. might be lapses as you suggest (or lapsed) but I prefer lapped meaning to be 'a lap behind' (i.e. 'one circuit in arrears').

thanks silly boy and jim c. You are probably right jim c about lapped. didn't see that but it is so obvious. I had soldiers down for "you'll know what they are by the mess etc" thinking mess as in the army context but that was thrown out by other clues. thanks again

Hi Helbar
Is the 'o' for sure in 1? I wuz thinking of OFFICERS (mess)?
helbar
Jolan, apologies for misleading you and all other forum contributors, I hadn't altered my original answer so yes my o was wrong. you are right, officers does fit it and completes my crossword, many thanks
