I don't quite get the wordplay in 17d; everything else is clear.

Is the resultant "one" to be explained as "sole"?
If so, dual-purpose clue word.
Sorry, can't help otherwise -- and tried much earlier, only to be blocked by "work in progress".
Some nice witty sentences nevertheless, n'est-ce pas?!

That's exactly what I thought: that "sole" was doing double duty. I just don't think it's kosher.

Yes, the new format needs a few tweaks, but it looks slick.

The puzzle was easy in the south, but took a while up top.
Agree about 17D. Also, not clear on wordplay for last half of 28A.
7D, obvious from clue but never heard of it, or saw it. US TV. Ptui.
