I have a beautiful part set of Mah Jong pieces in mother of pearl. Apparently my grandmother used to play until her father realised it was gambling......
In China people seemed to be playing cards in the street- didn't see any Mah Jong.

Orientals are renowned gamblers and Mah Jong was / is a particular favourite for them. I still have a full set which I bought in HK in the 70's (but can't remember how to play)

Really emrach? I believe it's better now. When I went to school there you could smoke 40 cigarettes or spend 40 minutes in Lord St (main central road)for the same effect on your lungs.

Hi emrach; agree about the history, especially shipbuilding. That's what my father did, and my grandfather.
