That's great Mamya. If I can trouble you once more..

Old Turkish sailor crew left on Island - OSMANLI I can see Island = Man and Left = L but the rest..

PS. Why does Superior translate to 'U'?

Thanks Sudokolover, I had thought the 'Island' was 'Man' (as in Isle of Man), I've ever heard of 'Crew' as 'Man' before. One for the notebook.

Should have said - onset= first signs,'new order' leads to the anagram.

PS. It's not that I don't like/want to parse the clue - but sometimes I forget the exact wording as I'm replying!
