I'm sure 5 isn't albatross, though I believe they can be noisy.

Welcome, also, and HNY to Rossim, Peterm and Ros. Have a great 2013.

Here are my workings. I'm chief cook this evening and must go to 'do' din-din. Will peep in much later.

1. (double) colours (n) = STANDARD = stock (adj)
2. one (Gallic) = un; triumph = coup; the (French) = le. UNCOUPLE = release (Chambers)
3. Subtractive anag (helter-skelter; without) of ‘alpinist on a’ – ‘pitons’ = LIANA = a climber.
4. sympathy = pity; the central character = t(H)e; joined in gives pit(h)y = PITHY = short (and sweet)
5. homophonic clue (voiciferously). golfers may ‘hole some’ giving WHOLESOME = good.

PS. Great to see Jazzy and Ari providing the explanations. Good on 'wholesome' peterm. My food-critic awaits. TTFN

JO LAN PETER M

Hmmmm! Yes. I suppose there's a clear similarity there (somewhere), Ari. LOL.

Might try to clue it.

Wonder if Tony is away for the New Year. If so, Happy New Year Tony (when you return).
