I think these were
First one - A Salti ('salt; is the sailor)
Second one - Histogen (anagram of 'this' and add 'ogen', a type of melon.
I am hopeless at explaining - sorry.

Thanks malone

histogen makes complete sense - I didn't know that 'ogen' was a type of melon

but "a salti" ?

A salti means intermittently - I don't know about the rest!

I decided to investigate -
'ai' means the same as 'ayu'. That's a Japanese fish. Put 'salt' inside a salt i, and you get 'a salti', intermittently. Phew!

And Collins tells me that 'ai' is another name for 'ayu' which is a Japanese fish, so all is clear.

Mephisto still strikes me as a tad unfair. To have any hope you need 2 Chambers + 2 Bradshaws + some crie-de-couer here.

Thanks to all
