wrt Post 16, an R crossed on the stem appears (or used to) in the top left hand corner of all prescriptions. It indicated the recipe for the medicine or pills, which doctors used to write out in full. In Latin, as well, probably so most people didn't know what they had been prescribed. Especially if it was water, colour and flavour!
