1. Illyria is mentioned several times in "twelfth night". it is believed to refer to modern dalmatia, croatia I suppose.

2. the "Ellen" in scott's "lady of the lake" was the daughter of the earl of bothwell. she was a hottie who had three blokes on the go at the same time. but it all ended happily (for her and dad at least). this work was published in 1810, nearly 40 years before Ellen Terry (the actress)was born in 1847.

Ellen Terry was a favourite of the pre-raphaelites. it is my guess that she was the model for one of them in a lady of the lake painting. lady of the lake in the sense of arthur/excaliber etc. but I can't find one. another possibility is the painting of her as lady macbeth. she is wearing a fantastic dress covered in real shimmering blue/green beetle skins (it's a genuine dress that still exists). if we could call the blue/green colour Lake......

probably all bollocks but there you go.
