Hi eccles,
Not impressed with the definitions - if I'm reading them correctly, REACTOR is "powerful agency" and SORTIE is "going out". I suppose the reactor one is a reference to a power station, but why "agency"?, and "going out" is a rather feeble description of a sortie!

Can see what you mean about reactor, but sortie as a verb does mean go out.

No matter, probably just me in a bit of a foul mood.

hi gk, just popped in here by chance as don't usually do the daily grauniad. Genius is tricky this month (new setter, which always takes some getting used to), but I'm sure you could do it.
Enjoying the food quiz, favourites so far 16 & 48. You?

@ Mrs T.: finished yesterday morning, but à propos 48: I put a certain variety using a certain bird, seeing no other possibility alphabetically --- do you agree? The clue was purely "phonetic", right?

"finished yesterday morning, but"...... has a familiar ring to it doesn't it.

in any event, surely it's a bit early to be seeking help.

now now phillip, I recall you not so long ago complaining about someone joining in a 'private' thread. Personally I believe it's a public forum and all are welcome to join in any thread, so I'll defend gk to you (not that he needs it)by saying he's simply asking for confirmation, not for help. But I'm laughing as I have to say gk: I can't work out what answer you've got, but I think you're up the wrong tree there! Have another look. There, no clues given.

Mrs trellis, OK, I did say that and I was wrong. now back to the matter in hand.

GK seems to specialise in being the first to finish ANYTHING. albeit with a few wrong answers. or at least, answers he is not sure about. seeking confirmation of your answers is definitely seeking help. if you must boast about finishing at least be fairly sure you have. not say "I've finished but can you confirm this/these answers are right.

if you hear the sound of hoofbeats it will probably be arch stanton rding this way.
