A very long shot "partymen" (although I don't think it is a single word.)

Hi Ari and Andyc (once more). Well done Tony. I thought I might have had the victory of having to reveal one but, such is the skill of our solvers, that is unlikely to bappen. I append my workings, just for completion:-

1. anag (extraordinary) of ‘ a dandy + his lover’ = HARLEY DAVIDSON= means of transport
2. keep = FORT (to = beside = +) present = HERE + line = CORD = FOR THE RECORD = in order to get the facts straight (Chambers def).
3. public = OVERT; friendly greeting = Hi; Hades = HELL, yielding OVERT + HE(HI)LL = OVER THE HILL = ancient
4. drunk = toper; and, when returning to recon’d Net, yields ENT + REPOT = ENTREPOT = port
5. STALE + MATE

Thank all who had a go

See you next week

John
