That comforts me no end! I presume "4" refers to "SWAK" (I always thought it was SWALK:what happened to the loving bit, or is it all just sex nowadays? Sometimes x-wds make me feel old).
Yes, it was "Waterlands", which I admit I only read originally because all the Eng. teachers in my school in Hamb.for some reason got a free copy (hardbound-- unusually generous). Try "last Orders" though: I think you'd find it much more readable, & certainly not depressing, tho' it also concerns a coffin etc.!!!
