Got it (finally)

T (AKA)HE - a type of bird

Great Bullfrog - also "ground" refers to the fact that it is flightless.

I was pretty sure it was a bird (rail), with the middle section being AMA or AKA for a thousand amps, but i was misled by ground into looking for an anagram of THE. In fact, it denotes a flightless bird!

I think it is a bit too early to be asking for help on this.My mum received it in the post yesterday and it still has another month to go.

I am not submitting my grid as I have, as always, made a mess of it, completing in ink. So this will give a chance for your Mother to win, perhaps.

Hi jazzgirl,I did have to apply a bit of correction fluid to a Y instead of an I in the bottom right(my fault entirely) but will still submit it.
