Thanks again Phillip. My brain mustn't be set to cryptic at the moment...I can usually get into the mindset of the setter..but obviously not this week !

cant come up with an explanation for launders. so it might be Lounders, (which means beat which is the way some people do their washing). this would break down as......see = Lo + under S (S being the 19th letter of alphabet).

of course it would be nicer if see = La in some way.
