My best guess for 14 is that bus and tube are both slang words for aeroplane.

The other one is a r (last letter of doctor) ins. cure, giving curare.

Finished, but have a question. For 3d: One learning to steer etc on a navy sub (4) I have LOAN (for sub) but don't get the LO. Is it a Brit thing, like a learner's license or something?

Thanks, sudokulover. Figured that L was for learner, but thought there might be an LO designation (for a temporary permit, say). Didn't think of O for on.
