I may have got this wrong but if it's correct i need explanation:-

Add large space for family emblem - TOTEM (emblem) but 'large space' and 'family'?

A totem pole is comprised of ancestral images. Tot means add, and em is a type measurement.

An em-dash, for example, is wider than an en-dash- the width of an M rather than an N.
