I reckon packed, meaning full, as a homophone ("taken in"?) of pact.

My internet connection went down. Just returned.
PACKED has my vote
Pact - settlement
(taken in = as heard) PACKED (full)
Have to go out for the evening, so just
want to thank Jolan. Great clues again.

Yes, I think packed is better.
Jolan, really, there's no need to wash up as well!

Ha, ha! Verey droll Roz lol. Welcome also Rossim. Peterm and Rossim solved it.
Many thanks to all who've enjoyed our wee weekly.

Here are my workings, just for completion:-

1. plane (v) = make smooth = SMOOTHEN. Flies back = S; low = MOO; (to) the point = THE + N
2. anag (ground) of ‘ ethnical bean = IN THE BALANCE = unsettled
3. behind = AFT; time = ERA; manufacture = fashion; aft + era + fashion = AFTER A FASHION = in an unsatisfactory manner.
4. (homophone = taken in) settlement = pact is ‘taken in’ but it’s really PACKED = full.
5. Corrupt = ADULTERATE. sexually explicit = ADULT; E = European (as in E number); judge (v) = RATE.
