can someone explain 13d? I thought 'broadcast' should be 'sow' not 'sew'

sew and sow are both acceptable spellings

I can't see 'sew' in Chambers as a variant spelling for 'sow' with this meaning and even the OED only has it as a variant spelling for English in the Middle Ages. Saying that, I vaguely remember seeing 'sewn with stars' in the context of heraldry, but I still think this is a mistake.

It has to be SEW otherwise the clue doesn't work.

SEW (broadcast) about CR (credit/book entry)
= SCREW -which goes with DRIVER (23d) to make another cocktail SCREWDRIVER

The key to 13dn is surely the "hear"? "Hear broadcast" = sounds like sow = sew.
