The "ide" is a fish only found in crosswords, as far as I know. It reminds me of a cartoon I saw years ago, showing a scene in a zoo that likes to keep its animals in their natural environment - the "gnu" was shown in a cage wall-papered with crosswords.

ChrisE, very funny! There are lots of words that fit into that category - the trick is to remember them the next time they are used!

The light has just dawned - realised that I'd spelt 9 across wrongly which put a wrong letter into 1D - all done now.

Have raised nearly £100 so far. To contribute to the bird theme am trying to discourage blue tit from nesting on garden! Cats licking their lips in anticipation.
