Sorry, Les. Re 33a, that was the only clue I didn't get at first. I didn't get the answer till 17d clinched it, and even then I drew a blank with "a square in Rome". I just realized that it's simply a square number in Roman numerals! Rather good.

just got side tracked then, but looked over it again and now have 24a, 17d, [27d(thought it was 'ists') but it's 'isms']. I don't know what Radar drank, but now know that Pop is the Def, Soda? Coke? doesn't sound like the size of a child though.
I will have another look now I'm in the South-East corner.

Are you still around aristo or Syzzie, I've not put it down until now, but have finished-ish, I have some question marks concerning the themes which I would like to run by you. Do I need to correspond via email?

Ok aristo,

Is 28 across actually a word? or is the 5th letter 's' in this instead of 'r' to create a word to mean what the others are? (hope you see what I mean)
I have no idea what the link is with 'B'
I can't seem to get an answer for 49down
The theme for 'A' isn't comprising of 1 theme word and 3 variations, it just seems to be 4 variations ( would it not be more fitting for the theme word to be for instance 'capital' or 'states')
None of the themes seem to be remotely like the examples given in the preamble.
What do you think, have I got the whole thing wrong?

Oh, and I agree that 31d is very clever. I did check it over on a Anton Chekov link but really, the clue works without that knowledge when you look at it

Re Theme Word B- when you've finished, list the ABC parts and you'll see the connection.
