The reason you don't see film anymore:

However, this site has taken the initiative:

Not clear if they ship overseas. Read the FAQ.
It is region-free though.

That region-block thing really sticks in my craw. I can't send DVDs down under. How did the film companies collude with the player makers to swing that?

The NTSC vs PAL is another complication, but I think that only applies to VHS.

If you have a flat-screen TV, it should talk to your DVD player.

Looking at Wiki, it's complicated. Same regional crap. No, different regional crap.

Maybe we need a New World Order.
David Icke might disagree. (-;

Syzygy.
i remember buying a video of The Jungle Book (the Disney Animation) for my Niece whilst in new york - they still made money in the UK by releasing it to cinema every 7 years or so to a new audience - it cost me a small fortune to have it converted when i got home.Damn!
oh-well, long time ago and i still watch it but this 'region' stuff is a scam.

It's all about marketing. They release it cheap in areas like China or the 3rd world, but make it up on the volume. We pay more. Of course, some in the East are quite adept at making copies & selling them back here.

There are personal-use copy programs available that will strip the region code. Try C-NET.

Ironically, your PC should play any region DVD. Hence the copy capability.

Geez, if you're in the UTC zone, don't you sleep?

Yes, your conversion was VHS, from NTSC to PAL.

Anyway, go have a coffee with Aristo.
Forget the coffee. You guys have all those wonderful whiskies over there.

Ciao

Will the DVD cheer it up, then?

I'm up. Sugar AND whisk(e)y perhaps? We can't watch the European and Aussie DVDs here. Amazon is usually kind enough to note incompatibility. As long as Colombian coffee beans aren't incompatible with my grinder...
