I meant pestle- and the word "schoolboy" certainly came to mind.

Life in England is so simple. In Germany, say, you have to conjugate with so many different ends. :)

Sorry, rambler - I've been busy working out how 'pestle' could havebeen aristo's answer!Also, we've maybe all solved bullfrog's clue, but none of us can post as we're all solvers.
Have put my thinking cap on, for next clue.

Most of the regular solvers have had a go so it may peter out.
