In the second one could the extra letter be B with the rest anagrammed around "v" for very to give a grassland?

I was a bit hasty with my thanks - both answers can't be right as they intersect (at the 3rd letter). I tested out 'savanna' which gave me ??v??or?a? - this lead me to 'lavatorial'. Hoping that's right!

That must be right but doesn't that make it an extra letter in the solution to the clue rather than the clue itself. The dropped E is not part of the clue.

No the word meat clues for veal... so the extra letter IS in the clue.
