Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas.
I had not intentionally left just a bit of a problem with by broadband connection that keeps going down.
Nearly as much problem as all these letters starting with V are giving.
Would like to conclude it if possible and then shout out
"VICTORY"
Keep trying for me please

Number 3 could be Vathek!
I decided to treat the clue as a normal crossword clue - so I anagrammed 'h'(high)+v(five)+'take'. I came up with vathek/Vathek - a Gothic novel apparently.

Brilliant Joan ! That's why I was asking earlier for an example of any answer which had already been solved so that you can try to work out the level of the quiz and how the setter's mind works. Came through to switch off ! Bye.

Morning violin,
I don't have the quiz myself but I notice that it is advertised on "The Answerbank" website under the category "Quizzes and Puzzles".
It says " Latest North East Liberal Democrat quiz now available - we have now reached the letter "V". £2 entry (cheques payable to the North East Fife Liberal Democrats) and closing date 7th November. Contact Jane Ann Liston, 5 Whitehill Terrace, Largo Road, St Andrews, Fife KY16 8RN)
Cheers
Julie
