Is 38d the same as 8d ?

I did that at first too.

No 8d is a surname the other a christian name

On my last two here and stuck. 43ac inexperienced in translation -ns-e- and 39ac lightning reviewer -e-in. None of the words I can think of seem to fit the clues. Hints gratefully received.

LEVIN means lightning. Bernard Levin was a critic/reviwer. Piss-poor if you ask me..

UNSEEN means inexperienced, it also means such a passage for translation (Chambers).

Piss-poor as a clue or as a reviewer?

UNSEEN means both those things-see Chambers.
