I, too, may be barking up the wrong tree, but aren't there a number of clued lights that could be "the antithesis of the unclued ones". E.g. 31dn, 33dn, 38ac?

Not 38 Across-because of its last letter. not 31 Down because of its second letter.

According to Chambers, eat can mean upset (I suppose in the sense of "what's eating you"). I'd not come across the answer before (definition: be humiliated).

Fitte and unform are incorrect because they don't follow the pattern.
