we should cleave together and assume that to leave is part.

Yes, we've got all the parts now, including the part = to leave.

Haha, I saw that quiz about the two opposite meanings of cleave.

I've finished the crossword now. Well, I can't really say I've
finished it, after all that help! Many thanks, all. It's past my bedtime. 'Night, all.

I've just finished another Times crossword but the last clue is bugging me.

Fruit I withheld from liar brought to book (6)

- N - N - S

I have ANANAS but is it right?

It's a fruit but I just can't see the rest of the clue. I withheld from LIAR suggests to me LAR but what then? Brought to book could indicate letter B, I suppose. Is there some play around the word BANANAS? Or...?

Ananias was a biblical character who was struck dead for lying, and ananas is another word for pineapple.

Thanks. I had completely forgotten the biblical character, if indeed I ever knew it. Pineapple is just one species of ANANAS.
