Can I ask about 28ac "Square cover took keen measure as fielder"? The answer seems to be SLID but how is "took keen measure as fielder" relevant? Is there some sporting term I'm not familiar with?

I don't know anything about cricket, but in baseball one slides into a base or homeplate to avoid a tag, often when stealing.

Ah, I see; it has to be a defensive play. Slid to make a catch?
