Bernie, thanks on both counts.

I find these things a bit like "tea-time" crosswords, the non-cryptic ones. Very hard to do but O think I'll do some ironing and continue to try.

Thank you so much Wendy and Bernie for your time and trouble ! This quiz is a mix of factual, cryptic and anagrams and, now that I am nearing the end, is proving very tricky !!!

Hi Polly Dee does that mean the answers given,in your view,correct?
Only ask because I thought 1. (letters given) could have been 4,6.
Just thinking of another comic, that's all!

Hi Karen ! Thanks for your message. I never take given answers as read, I always try to check them out and if in doubt, discard !!! I think the comedian one is right. The setter is not always dependable as to spellings, number of letters etc. so we have to be flexible !!! It all adds to the fun !!!

Unfortunately I havent managed to get the others but if you can help I do have a few more !!!
1. GET STARRING WEAR (anag) (7,8)
2. The French child's plaything and a small seat churned (3,7) [I know the french for plaything is JOUET]
How about this one !!!!
3. In WW11 ladies worked on the farms and one was called (1,4,4) turn this into what a male could be called, clue (1,4,3 ) then scramble (4,4).
4. Did Eskimos want to dance with her?(4,5)
Any ideas ???
