My mother used to "take in" my sisters dresses to fit them ,so I am going for tighten.

My mind can not get past my "O" level Fashion and Fabrics...oh those heady days.

So I am with "taking in" darts, tuck etc...

A thousand pardons folks. I was called away and have just returned. Thanks all for having a go. Tony P@ trevor The Joker(who got it!) Les 40 and Ixion.

It's a homophone (Take in = understand = realise = "listen to or hear"); CLOSE = to complete (Ch.D) and, as TJ says sounds like CLOTHES = dress.

I tend to pronounce the word Clothes as Cloves.

Hi,

Glad that was solved...and yes a I would love to have 20/20 hindsight.

Nice one yet again Jolan...and I learned another new word.

Had to "google" Shavespoke...I will try and work it in to a conversation tomorrow!
