Thanks all. I thought it might be a controversial idea but it is heartening to see no negative posts.

I am with you 100%.
I would even consider a further response aimed at the people who do give an answer, when no information has been given.
Perhaps a reminder to them, that we are trying to "educate"the enquirers to supply adequate information, and giving answers in the absence of any information, does not help our cause.

This seems sensible, although I imagine the growing use of Iphones etc (in which the guidance text may be very small) accounts for some examples.
I also applaud Chald for upbraiding those who consistently receive help, but offer no thanks.

Yes, I support any positive attempt to improve things. I have often thought the best thing is not to answer any poster who cannot be bothered to give the number of letters - or even the clue in some cases! But someone always comes along and gives them the answer. Drat! If we could get those people not to respond...

Re letters filled in, there will of course be some people posting clue and letter number who will not have filled in any letters so we should bear that in mind and respond politely.

I too detest the habit of receiving help and not giving a word of thanks. Even worse is the appalling rudeness of some who thank one helper but not another on a thread.
