Help please!

Logically 'CITS' but could be 'CIGS' ???

Hi Cathy,
CITS for definite,cit is a contemptible name for a
townsperson,usually not a gentleman.

It's CITS - a cit is term of contempt for a townsman, not a gentleman. The answer comes from the first letter of the words in the clue.
