unicus: DONEE (beware of Greeks!).
peterm: Hm. I play Scarlatti and know that Kirkpatrick, but what's the connection? Just don't get it. I was assuming that Polly was a sobriquet for the parrot KAKA. I have LEADERENE, so the A is accounted for in earned.

Aristo - I've just twigged what you meant about 8d. Lee is an alternative spelling of lea. So you get an anagram within the word lee. (The Sam Adams sounds good!)

unicus: No, from the master of Birds himself.
peterm: That's what I figured, but I couldn't find that meaning of lee in my OED- though the print is awfully small...

It's an anagram of lieu tant that gives you an adjective meaning Parisian (new to me, but in Chambers).
