All complete except for 2 clues and I think I have answers to both those but do not understand how they fit. They are 1d and 9a any hints that may help me confirm my thoughts are correct would be helpful. I have not put my "answers" here as either do not want to spoil for other or embarass myself by being very wrong.

1dn is the name of an insect and a homophone for a word meaning "take off".

9ac relates to a Shakespeare quote. Google "Dick the butcher" and all will become clear.

LostBoy - your letters are right. The second word is bean. The pre-operative answer is a type of bean. Change the first word for a facial feature.

Thanks, but that thread has it wrong. I see now that I was right with DONNA. AN + NOD (acknowledgement) backwards.
