Araucaria`s signature alphabetical jig-saws are apparently referred to as "ARAUBETICALS". I`d love to get this in Chambers as a lasting tribute to the GOM.

finding this hard. seem to have solved the 12 letter clue for E which I think is an anagram of 'one severely' but I don't seem to have anywhere to put it.

Thaomas,
It's an anagram of one severely + E (drug)

A word of warning: For A i find that the answer is a 7-letter word, not 7 and 5, as shown in the clue.

David W

A is one of the Grauniad's famous misprints. It is just a (7), not a (7,5).

You both do Araucaria a disservice... A is BOTH 7 AND 5 if you follow the clue completely - it is really very clever!

Gillandia - is it possible to enlighten s without giving the answer? I can't see where another 5-letter word would fit in the grid.

Gillandia - is it possible to enlighten us without giving the answer? I can't see where another 5-letter word would fit in the grid.

The 7-letter answer can be reduced to a 5-letter answer to completely satisfy all elements of the clue - there is only the single 7-letter answer in the grid itself [unlike E (7,5) where the two words both begin with E in a 12-letter entry in the grid]]

Thomas,

SPOILER ALERT...
Maybe I am wrong. I have the answer to E going down on the far right of the grid
