If 6d is the author, I have -in-erso-; is that ccompletely wrong? I can't think of who it could be.

Your letters are correct. The work was published in 1985 - this should help if you have the theme at 11d.

I'm a newcomer to this crossword. I know not to ask for answers, but am I allowed to ask for guidance? I've completed over half, battling with some and seem to have ground to a total halt with a couple. For example...
7 D. Football club:side wanting to score may show this (5, two words)
f-l-- (I also have 'f-l-o' but that seems v odd).
Any tips to unblock my brain? Thanks

First of all, your o is wrong.

A person who is writing music scores.

I hope this helps.

AJT

Isn't it just a symbol that can be found in a musical score?

Thanks, ixion and AJT. I had the musical score word when I was working my way through possibles beginning with fc, but didn't consider it a viable option!

Finished! I'm still puzzled by the answer to 13 A. My solution seems to be the only word that fits, but I don't know how 'doughnuts' has anything to do with it.
I realise this post is only relevant to someone who's solved the clue but I would dearly like clarification. Thanks.
