Hieroglyph - your "t" is wrong. It's the second part of 4dn which applies. The answer to 8ac on the LH side is an anagram, but no "t".

I've finished but there's one clue I don't get. For 17a: "summon returning oriental, hired" I have ACCITE. Oriental? Hired?

accite is correct - reverse it E(oriental) ticca (defined as "hired" in Chambers)
