Dizzy

Yes, I appreciate that, which is why I referred to "ivories" in my post. However, the theme is colours and ivory, not ivories, is a colour of some musical keys?

If ivory fits the clue, then isn't ebony just as likely?

tinkling the ivory?(actually, that does kinda sound ok)
just saying if ivory, rather than ivories fits, then I think ebony does too.
The clue doesn't require that the answer can be tinkled.
(side by side on my piano keyboard,oh lord!).

There is a band called, the black keys.
Probably a bit too obscure tho.

Hi again JimB
I don't dispute the phrase is "ivories" (not ivory) but you (not the clue)introduced the phrase to discredit ebony as an answer.
I'm not really sure that the phrase has any relevance.
All the best
