Hi,

Vigorous tosser's achievement secures victory for idle bugger (6)

S_I_E_

Looks like 'skiver' i.e. an 'idle bugger'. Skier with 'v' for victory? Or 'r' as end of 'tosser'? Then left with 's,k,i,e' to explain?

Don't get it! Help appreciated.

Thanks.

I get the logic but don't know the expression.

You're overthinking it.
The Private Eye writers and management are the sort of people who practise reverse-snobbery and assume people who go on skiing holidays are all tossers.

pajodr,
"Vigorous tosser's achievement secures victory for idle bugger"

doesn't match your explanation at all.you seem to be a bit of a snob with an axe to grind.

"Tosser secures victory for idle bugger" maybe,if tosser/skier are synonymous.

Pajodr's explanation of the clue may or may not be right. But he is bang on about what PI thinks of people who go skiing.

Looking at my suggestion again I suspect it is incorrect - doesn't explain vigorous or achievement

My one explains the vigorous. Not sure how achievement fits in though!

A skyer is a cricket term for a ball hit high in the air - so maybe a good bowl(toss) would achieve a skier?
