If 8 down is HOPAK, what is 6 across s?a?h (I thought it was slang, but the g ruins the start of hopak.)
Also, what is 34 down - I think I have got
p?e?s?a?e?e

Any thoughts would be welcome

Sorry Jim.
Clues are: informal language in 5 (I have s?a?h)
lively Ukrainian dance in 5 (I think hopak)
era when humans emerged in 11 (I have
p?e?s?a?e?e)
Thanks for your offer of help. Peter

The 11 letter word, I think is 'Pleistocene', although this would make wrong the 7th letter 'a' that you have.

I agree 'slang' also sounds the right answer, which would make 'hopak' a bit less certain ....

Thanks Jim.

Pleistocene looks right, and I have corrected the 7th letter from the crossing word.
I agree slang looks right, but that makes the dance g?p?k.

Ok, I think the answers are 'slang' and 'gopak' ('gopak' being a less-common alternative spelling of 'hopak' in our alphabet/langauge).

At least 'slang' and 'gopak' would fit together!
