I can supply answers / hints to this one. But if someone has 13A...would they please explain it for me? I can explain the last 5 letters but not the first 5. 24A also, Have definition but not sure about the cryptic. Being in Toronto, I won't be up and about till about 1 pm UK time. Good luck.

13ac - Check out the French for (the) Ass (as in donkey!!)

24ac - first 3 letters you'll find on a stove; split last 4 in 2-2 ~ it's a typical Araucarian allusion (somewhat dated now I guess) to what someone who is about to pour tea for others might say:
" ... shall I ?? ???"

These are the clues JeffC was referring to:

13ac Needed support of the "ass of the bridge" unfinished in France (6,4)

24ac Painter on top of stove to pour out the tea? (7)

They are from today's prize crossword in the Guardian which can be found on:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/crosswords/prize/25179

which is a free site if you fancy having a go. :-)

I think I've cracked this one, within the day, which is definitely a first for me.

Not sure about my answer to 21d. Does it have something to do with 13 the musical?
