I've googled myself to death! Whether it's 'east', 'past' or whatever, please explain wordplay!

Good Morning MH. It could be Past (sounds like Passed) passing the ball in Rugby..Direction
Only one I can come up with

An outside possibility could be WAIT.
This is an instruction (direction) given verbally by the referee to both sets of forwards at every scrum before he tells them to engage.
I don't really like it as an answer though.

Had a rethink here and am sure the answer is EAST.
