2d isn't Pillaged.

Definition is 'greatly shocked.'
Wordplay is:
'European' - think of someone from Eastern Europe.
'given the sack' - often used in a sporting context when a player is dropped from a team.

1ac - think of a tall feature of church/cathedral.

27ac - a popular sport.

Thank you to everyone. I agree with poleaxed, its so obvious when someone tells you! I think my grid may be wrong. I am using the version from the website. I haven't got a clue for 1a but I have a spare 6 letter clue called 27a. the answer to this could be tennis but that doesn't fit at 1a! What is the clue that goes with "ASPIRE" ?

The online grid was really messed up to start with, the PDF version was OK ~ the online version is correct now.
