Can anybody explain these to me? 1. Pompous pupil once up a gum tree without a book (9) B?M?A?T?C I think it could be bombastic. 2.A singular clergyman turned into a dull opponent (9) A?V?R?A?Y Looks like adversary but why singular and why dull?? Thanks for any help

Hello Val/Francis - I think is a s (for a singular) rev backwards inside a dry
Bombastic - ob (old boy) backwards with mastic for gum roumnd b for book -
