2 Redshift..albeit this is a guess since I dont know what the clue is

Clue for 2.down . Colourful underwear shows increasing distance . I'm like you Chrisg think it's redshift , but cannot find it in the dictionary . Thanks Tiswas 123 , should have got that !!!

Redshift is the answer m8. absorption lines in the optical spectrum.

I'm not an astronomer, but I know redshift concerns the difference in the spectrum which shows scientists the rate at which stars are moving away from each other.

shift was apparently a long linen garment of ladies underwear.redshift is how/why scientists 'know' that the universe is expanding.
